John “Hutch” Hutchings became a Thurston County Commissioner for District One in January 2017. He was also appointed to the LOTT Board of Directors in 2017.
John has dedicated much of his life to civil service, including a 35 year career in law enforcement for the Cities of Olympia, Tenino, and Orange, California. He earned his Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership/Development (2004) from Chapman University, Orange, California and was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for which he conducted a multi-national research project in England, Scotland, and Wales. Hutch represents the County on many Boards and Commissions, including Animal Services, Cascade Pacific Action Alliance, Community Investment Partnership, Disability Board, Olympic Region Clean Air Agency, Pac Mountain Consortium, Tourism Promotion Area, Transportation Policy Board, Thurston Regional Planning Committee, and Thurston-Mason Behavioral Health Organization.
